From Sorrow to Strength: Finding Peace Through Faith, Silence, and Meditation

Written by Robert R.

The Greek writer Aeschylus said “No man upon earth shall be brought to the end of his days unwounded by Sorrow. “ Although pain and sorrow are a part of life, how we respond to adversity can make all the difference. The Roman philosopher Marcus Aurelius said, “ You have power over your mind, not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength. “ All the things of this world are fleeting and impermanent. By having faith in what is eternal and unchanging in the universe, we can deal with whatever losses life deals us with strength and dignity. The writer Franz Kafka said “ man cannot live without a permanent trust in something indestructible in himself. “ If you have a faith that is indestructible it will enable you to meet life’s challenges. Although a person of faith may suffer from mental anguish, they are not vulnerable to despair.

Sometimes it is helpful to seek companionship in times of trouble. Witnesses to evil and cruelty need to have their stories told. Telling your story can have a healing effect. The poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge wrote “ since then, at an uncertain hour, that agony returns: And till my ghastly tale is told, this heart within me burns. “

The Buddha said that all attachments and desires are the root of all suffering. Meditation quiets your mind and helps you focus so you can reduce the power that desires and attachments have on you. By strengthening the mind through the discipline of meditation it will help you to handle whatever difficulties you experience in life.

The Persian poet Rumi said that silence is the language of God. Silence has a healing power. Scientists tell us that silence helps brain cells regenerate. Silence allows the brain to heal itself. The Bible says “ it is out of the heart that a man speaks, not his mind. “ Sometimes to hear the voice of God you must be silent. To meditate in silence will help you come face to face with your inner self and hear the sound of silence in the infinite universe.

Meditation has a beneficial effect on both your physical and mental health, and improves the quality of your life.
